Fragment of a painted wooden coffin
Body section cut from one of the intricately decorated coffins of the early 3rd Intermediate Period produced for the elite at Thebes. In the first register is the winged scarab beetle supporting the sun disc, flanked by mummiform divinities who include the Sons of Horus. Below, Isis and Nephthys are depicted adoring the Abydos fetish of Osiris and they appear again at each side in postures of lamentation.
