Face of Akhenaten
This fragment of limestone has been discovered near the tomb of king Akhenaten at Tell El-`Amarna. It is one of the shabtis which have been deliberately broken during the desertion of the town. The head may be considered as one of the masterpieces of the Amarnan art of modelling. The physionomy is characterised above all by a feminine softness.
