Shabti-box of the wab-priest Patjauemdiamon
According to the Egyptian conception of the afterlife, the deceased could be called upon to do agricultural work in the other world. To avoid manual labor, it was enough to recite the formula written on the ushabti: “If I am called upon to cultivate the fields, irrigate the banks, transport the sand from east to west… ‘I’ll do it!’ you will say”.
Wood. Third Intermediate Period, 21st-22nd Dynasty, ca. 1076-746 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum of Turin. Cat. 2430
