Isis suckling Harpocrates

Isis suckling Harpocrates
This figurine in terracotta shows Isis seated on a throne with a high back, with moulded cornice and armrests. The goddess presents the left breast to her son Harpocrates who she holds in her lap. Her hair is dressed with bands and long corkscrew curls. She wears an Isiac crown covered by a veil. It is probable that the type of Isis "lactans" - Greek version of the egyptian motif - derives from the cult statue of an important alexandrian sanctuary of the 3rd century BC.
